Over 40 Club Olympia swimmers traveled south of the Ohio River to compete this past weekend in the Jack Thompson Classic at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center in Louisville, Kentucky, hosted by Lakeside Swim Team, one of the premier swim clubs in the United States.  This annual competition features some of the best swimmers from Louisville’s top swim clubs and is a unique 2.5 day meet in which athletes can compete in more than twice the number of events of typical meets, which also more than doubles the distance swam in competition.   Club Olympia, the only team from Indiana to participate, took a solid third place behind the much larger Lakeside and Triton clubs, with several Club Olympia athletes competing in more than 3000 yards (nearly two miles) over 14 events.

Club Olympia’s 10U and 8U teams led the way in scoring for the weekend.  10 year old Camila Mejia Murguia claimed five 1st place finishes and added two 2nd place and one 3rd place finish in 10 events totaling 1000 yards of competition.  Shreyan Kulkarni, also 10 years old, swam in 12 different events totaling 2500 yards and finished 2nd in five events and 3rd in three events. Rebeca Mejia Murguia (10) had four 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes.  Xavier Zhang (10) had two 4th place finishes in an abbreviated weekend (one day) schedule.

For the eight year olds, Vivan Shah competed in 10 events, finishing with one 1st, three 2nd, and one 3rd place finish in 10 events.  Emily Meek, also on an abbreviated weekend (one day) schedule still claimed two 1st place and two 3rd place finishes in five total events.  Sarthank Deshmukh claimed one 4th place finish in nine events.

Sixteen year old Ashley Freel competed in over 2000 yards of events during the weekend finishing 2nd in five events and 3rd in three events in the open division.   Thirteen year old Connelly Furnish competed in 14 events during the meet for a distance of 3100 yards claiming three 2nd and three 3rd place finishes in the 13/14 age group.

Other Club Olympia swimmers who also competed in fourteen events totaling more than 3000 yards each for the weekend were Cole Ehara, Sanaa Kulkarni, Misha Machavariani, and Judah Nickoll while Lane Mellencamp competed in just under 3000 yards of events.

Beyer totaled over 3300 yards of competition for the weekend.
