Three Club Olympia Swimmers qualified and were invited to be a part of Team Indiana as it competed for the 2022 Central Zones 14&U Championship this past weekend in Elkhart, Indiana.  This annual championship meet takes the best swimmers from the state to form Team Indiana which competes against teams representing Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.   At the close of the four day event, Team Indiana had claimed first place with 4,783 points, outdistancing 2nd place Team Ohio (3829.5 points), and 3rd place Team Michigan (3223.5).

Club Olympia’s 12 year old Josh Pendleton scored 98 points, winning the 11-12 Butterfly and 1500 Freestyle with personal best times in each.  The 200 Fly win was one of the most exciting events of the weekend as Pendleton trailed by a second with 50M remaining, but closed the gap with a terrific final 50M to win by a ½ second.  He also placed 2nd in the 800 Free, 4th in the 400 Free, and 5th in the 400 IM.   Pendleton also swam as part of the 11-12 4th place 400 Medley and 5th place 400 Freestyle relay teams.   Pendleton made the podium (top 8) in all his events for the weekend.

Tony Machavariani, age 9, competed in the 9-10 year old age group. Machavariani scored 81 points and won the 100 Butterfly.   He also took 3rd in the 200IM and 400 Free, 7th in the 50 Free, 8th in the 200 Free, and 11th in the 50 Fly.  He also swam as part of the 200 Free and Medley relays which both finished on the podium in 2nd place.

13 year old Connelly Furnish, competing in the 13-14 year old age group, scored five points for Team Indiana with a 12th place finish in the 1500 Free. She also had a personal best time and finished 22nd in the 400 Free.

The completion of the Zones Championship brings to a close a very successful Long Course Summer Swim Season for Team Indiana and Club Olympia.   Club Olympia will commence the Short Course Season in the next couple of weeks.  Please check the Club Olympia Website at ClubOlympiaSwimTeam.com for more information regarding the Learn-To-Swim Program and upcoming club tryouts.
