CLUB OLYMPIA COMPETES AT THE 2022 CE DIVISIONALS CHAMPIONSHIPS

This past weekend, with many of its State qualifiers off or competing elsewhere, 34 Club Olympia swimmers competed in the 2022 Indiana Swimming Long Course CE Divisional Meet in Franklin, Indiana.  Given only three sites held Divisional Meets in Indiana this year, the CE Divisional, with a record 714 athletes, was one of the most competitive Divisional Championships ever held.

Club Olympia swimmers established over 80 personal best event times while claiming five Gold Medal first place finishes and 30 total individual event top eight podium finishes.  Club Olympia’s relay teams totaled eight podium relay finishes including one first-place finish.

Individual event winners included Tony Machavariani, Xavier Zhang, Joshua Pendleton, and Ty Mayer.

Top Individual performers were 10-year-olds Lily Pendleton and Xavier Zhang, and 14-year-old Lane Mellencamp who all claimed podium finishes in each of their six individual events.

For the 10&U Age Group, Pendleton was 3rd in the 200 IM, 4th in the 100 & 200 Free, 6th in the 50 & 100 Breast, and 7th in the 50 Free.  Zhang was 1st in the 50 Fly, 2nd in the 100 Free, 3rd in the 200 IM, 4th in the 50 Back and 200 Free, and 5th in the 50 Free.  Arjun Agarkar was 7th in the 50 Free, 14th in the 100 Free, and 12th in the 200 IM.  Aahan Gupta was 7th in the 50 Fly and 200 Free and 15th in the 50 Back.  Vivan Shah was 5th in the 100 Back, 8th in the 50 Back, and 9th in the 200 IM.   Daxton Wolf claimed 10th in the 200 IM, 13th in the 50 Free and 100 Back, and 14th in the 50 Back, and 200 Free.
Machavariani and Shreyan Kulkarni competed on a limited schedule for the weekend.  Machavariani (9) took 1st in the 12&U 500 Free and 4th in the 14&U 1650 Free and Kulkarni (10) was 4th in the 12&U 500 Free.

Joshua Pendleton (12), also on a limited schedule, took the top spot in the 400 IM in the 14&U age group. Others competing in the 11-12 age group included Nandini Kondhare, who was 16th in the 100 Back, and Aashka Shah who placed 12th in the 50 Fly and 14th in the 100 Fly.

In the 13-14 age group, Mellencamp was 2nd in the 100 Back and 200 IM, 3rd in the 200 Back, 4th in the 100 Fly, 5th in the 500 Free, and 7th in the 100 Back.   Sanaa Kulkarni placed 8th in the 400 IM and 14th in the 100 Breast.

In the Open Division, Mayer was 1st in the 1650 Free, 8th in the 500 Free, and 11th in the 400 IM.  Cavan Stilson was 2nd in the 1650 Free, 6th in the 200 Back, and 13th in the 200 and 500 Free.  Hope Westphal was 4th in the 200 Breast and 200 Back and 5th in the 100 Fly.  Annie Murer placed 4th in the 50 Free and 15th in the 100 Fly.  Pratt Badve was 5th in the 200 Back and 6th in the 50 Free.  Ethan Hall placed 10th in the 200 Back.  Luke Miller took 11th in the 200 Breast, and Cole Ehara was 15th in the 200 Free.

The 10&U Boys relay team of Shah, Wolf, Zhang, and Agarkar took 1st in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Shourya Malviya, Chad Pendleton, Aahan Gupta, and Adir Joshi took 5th.  Agarkar, Gupta, Wolf and Zhang placed 2nd in the 200 Free Relay while Joshi, Shah, Pendleton, and Malviya finished 5th.

The 10&U Girls relay team of Emily Meek, Myra Jaryal, Cali Gray, and Lily Pendleton placed 10th in the 200 Medley Relay and 11th in the 200 Free Relay.

The Girls 13-14 relay comprised of Saya Hauser, Sanaa Kulkarni, Cassidy Furnish and Connelly Furnish were 5th in the 200 Medley and 9th in the 200 Free Relays.

The 15-18 Boys Relays were 3rd and 9th in the 200 Free Relay with Badve, Stilson, Ehara, and Miller on the A team, as well as Hall, Mayer, Rylan Perkins and Jesse Isaacs on the B team.  Stilson, Miller, Mayer and Ehara combined to take 5th in the 200 Medley Relay while Hall, Perkins, Jesse Isaacs and Eli Isaacs placed 8th.

Meanwhile, Club Olympia’s 16-year-old Ashley Freel met the tough qualifying standards that allowed her to spend the weekend competing in the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Cary, North Carolina where she achieved one personal record while competing in five events including the 100 Free,  200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, and 100 Back.

This weekend Club Olympia will wrap up its summer Long Course season with three of its athletes, Connelly Furnish, Tony Machavariani and Josh Pendleton competing at the Central Zones Championships in Elkhart as part of Team Indiana against state teams from Arkansas, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Oklahoma
