Three Club Olympia athletes competed this past weekend in a four-day meet hosted by The Swim Team (TST) Barracudas at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California. Josh Pendleton (11), Tony Machavariani (9) and Shreyan Kulkarni (9) met the meet’s tough time standards and were able to compete against some of California’s and the Western United States’ best age group swimmers in the International Swim Coaches Association’s (ISCA) West Coast Elite Showcase Classic. TST Barracudas is the team where Columbus, Indiana resident Brady Beyer currently is training.

The three Club Olympia athletes performed well enough in the four days of prelims and finals events to finish an impressive 7th in the men’s standings and 12th place in the team standings among nearly 30 clubs from both southern and northern California, Hawaii, Colorado, and Missouri.

Pendleton scored 99 points while taking 1st place in nine of ten events including the 100 (where he is currently the 26th ranked 11 year old in the country), 200 (6th), 500 (2nd), and 1000 Freestyle (2nd); the 200 (25th) and 400 IM (43rd); and the 50 (59th), 100 (21st) and 200 Butterfly (17th); Pendleton swam several personal record best times throughout the weekend and was the 11-year-old High Point winner.

Machavariani scored 95 points and took 1st place in seven of ten events including the 50, 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle; the 100 Breast; the 50 and 100 Butterfly, and the 100 Breaststroke. He also took 2nd place in the 100 and 200 IM. Despite a disqualification in one event, he still placed second in the 9&U High Point race.

Kulkarni scored 48 points while finishing top five in four events including the 50, 100, and 200 Freestyle, and 50 Backstroke, and top 10 in five events including the 50 and 100 Breastroke, 50 and 100 Butterfly, and 100 IM.

These three Club Olympia athletes returned this week to Columbus to finish training and preparing along with several other club athletes for the upcoming Indiana Swimming Age State Championships to be held at the IU Natatorium the weekend of March 11-13.
