Club Olympia Splits Duties to Compete at Riviera and Franklin Meets

The weekend of June 22-25, Club Olympia split its time between two different meets allowing club athletes to target select events with hopes of improving or achieving their state and divisional 2023 Long Course Championship meet qualifying times.  

Thursday and Friday evenings were spent at the Riviera Summer Spectacular at the historic Riviera Club in Indianapolis with the swimmers competing in distance and sprint events while Saturday and Sunday were spent swimming more typical long course events at the Franklin Regional Swim Team’s FRST Summer Classic in Franklin, Indiana.

At Riviera, Maggie Johnson, who swims collegiately for the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds but trains with Club Olympia during the summer, claimed first place finishes in the Girls Open 50 Fly and 400 Meter Free with three other top 10 finishes and two PRs. Cavan Stilson had top 10 finishes in the Boys Open 50 Back, 50 Free and 400 Free with three PRs competing in the open division.  Dathan Wolf, who competes collegiately at the University of Valparaiso and trains with Club Olympia in the summer, placed top 10 in the 50 Fly and 50 Back with one PR.  Ty Mayer placed 3rd in the Men’s Open Division 400 Free and 1500 Free with three total PRs.   Sanaa Kulkarni placed fifth in the 1500 and 9th in the 400 Free with four PRs.  Judah Nickoll was 8th in the 50 Fly with one PR.  Josh Pendleton competed in only the 1500 Free where he claimed 2nd with a PR.  

Connelly Furnish, competing all three days in Franklin, led the club at the FRST Summer Classic with 1st place finishes in the 13-14 Girls 200 Free and 200 Fly, 2nd in the 1500 Free, 400 Free, 100 Fly, and 200 IM, 3rd in the 100 Free and Breast, and 4th in the 200 Breast with two PRs.  Camila Mejia Murguia placed 3rd in the 11-12 Girls 50 Fly, 100 Free, and 200 IM, and 4th in the 50 Free and 100 Back, and added a 6th place 200 Back.

Shreyan Kulkarni finished 2nd in the 11-12 Boys 200 Breast and 4th in the 100 Breast and 200 IM and added 5th place finishes in the 100 & 200 Back. Aahan Gupta was 3rd in the 10&U Boys 100 Back, 4th in the 200 Free and 200 IM, and placed 5th in the 50 Free and Fly.   Rebeca Mejia Murguia placed 5th in the 11-12 Girls 100 Breast with two additional top 10’s.  Chad Pendleton was 3rd in the 10&U Boys 100 Free with two additional top 10’s.  Cavan Stilson finished 2nd in the Boys Open 200 IM and 5th in the 100 Back.  Xavier Zhang claimed 3 top 10 finishes.  Sanaa Kulkarni, Daxton Wolf, Aksh Ranjan, and Arjun Agarkar all finished with 2 top 10s. Sarthak Deshmukh had 1 top 10 finish.

In total, 21 swimmers achieved 46 PRs during the Thursday and Friday Riviera meet events.  29 swimmers achieved 62 PRs and added ten new Age Group State Championship qualifying cuts during the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Franklin events.
