Club Olympia Wraps Up 2023 Summer Long Course Season at Divisional Championships

This weekend brought to a close the Summer Long Course Season as Club Olympia wrapped up competition at the Indiana Swimming 2023 South East Divisional Championships.  25 teams from primarily the southeast corner of the state, but also including Brownsburg, Plainfield,  Avon,  Greenfield and Mooresville, were represented by swimmers who achieved divisional level cuts during the summer long course season.  In total, there were four divisional championship meet sites in the state of Indiana.  Club Olympia had 24 qualified athletes in competition and the 14&Us achieved best times in 80% of their swims.
 

10 year old Aahan Gupta and eight year old Chad Pendleton were both two time individual event champions in the 10U division.   Gupta was first in the 200 IM and 50 Back while Pendleton swam to the top spot in the 50 Free and 50 Breast.  Both were part of the 1st place finishing 10U 200 Medley relay along with Arash Thokade (7) and Sarthak Deshmukh (9). Other top podium finishers were Shreyan Kulkarni (11) who placed first in the 11-12 500 Free and also was the highest finishing 11 year old in the 14 and Under 1650 Free, where he finished third.  Cavan Stilson was first in the Open 200 Backstroke and Dathan Wolf, who swims collegiately for Valparaiso University, but trains in the summer with Club Olympia, grabbed the top spot on the podium in the Open 100 Fly.

In the 10U division, Gupta also placed 2nd in the 100 Free, 3rd in the 50 Fly and 200 Free, and 5th in the 50 Free.  Pendleton was 2nd in the 50 Fly and 100 Back and 14th in the 500 Free competing in the 12 and under division for that event.  Sarthak Deshmukh was 7th in the 200 IM, 12th in the 50 Breast, 14th in the 200 Free and 18th in the 100 Back.  Emily Meek (9) placed 3rd in the 100 Breast, 9th in the 50 Breast and 100 Fly, and 13th in the 50 Fly and 200 IM.  Seven year old Myra Jaryal finished 13th in the 100 Breast, 14th in the 100 Fly, and 15th in the 50 Breast. Also competing in the 10U division were Cali Gray (10) and Bella Zhang (8).

For the 11-12 year olds, Kulkarni also added a 4th in the 100 Fly, was 5th in the 100 Breast, and was 6th in the 50 Breast.  Xavier Zhang (11) climbed the podium three times taking 6th in the 500 Free, 7th in the 200 Free, and 8th in the 200 IM and placed 12th in the 100 Free and 15th in the 50 Back.  Lily Pendleton (11) grabbed a 4th place medal in the 500 Free and was 13th in the 50 Breast, 100 Fly, and 100 Free.  Arjun Agarkar (11) was 10th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 200 Free. Shourya Malviya (11) was 11th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 50 Fly.  Kay Payne (11) placed 12th in the 500 Free and 14th in the 100Fly.  Daxton Wolf (11) was 11th in the 50 Breast and 13th in the 500 Free.  Adir Joshi (11) had two top 20 finishes.

In the 13-14 division, Sanaa Kulkarni (14) claimed four podium spots with a 5th in the 100 and 200 Breast, was 7th in the 1650 Free, and 8th in the 400 IM.   Kulkarni was also 13th in the 500 Free and 19th in the 100 Fly and was the club’s Most Improved Female Performer at the meet, achieving best times in all 8 of her swims.  Aksh Ranjan (14) finished on the podium in 7th in the 200 Breast and added 12th place finishes in the 100 Breast and 100 Back and finished 15th in the 200 Back. Ranjan was also the club’s Most Improved Male Performer at the meet, achieving best times in all 10 of his swims.

In the Men’s Open division, Stilson added 9th place finishes in the 100 Free and 500 Free.  Wolf also added a podium 3rd place finish in the 200 Free. Ty Mayer took the podium twice, finishing 4th in the 500 Free and 6th in the 200 Fly. Ethan Hall was 10th in the 400 IM.  Luke Miller also competed in the Men’s Open Division.

Club Olympia Relays also had a successful SE Divisionals weekend.  In addition to winning the 200 Medley relay, the 10U Boys also claimed 2nd in the 200 Free Relay.   In the 11-12 Boys, Malviya, Agarkar, Zhang, Wolf and Kulkarni combined to take 3rd in both the 200 Free and 200 Medley Relays.  The 10U Girls team of Gray, Jaryal, Meek and Eva Rayomand (9) were 7th in both the 200 Medley and Free Relays.  For the 15-18 Boys Division, Stilson, Hall, Mayer, and Miller combined for 7th in the 200 Medley Relay.

Most Club Olympia athletes will have a few weeks off before commencing practice for the Fall and Winter short course season. Josh Pendleton (13) will spend this weekend in Elkhart, Indiana competing for Team Indiana in the Central Zone Championships for qualifying athletes ages 14 and Under.
