Club Olympia Swimmers Contribute to Team Indiana Win at 2023 Mid States

Team Indiana took the top spot in combined Men’s and Women’s scoring in the closely contested 2023 Mid States All Star Championships this past weekend hosted by Indiana Swimming at the I.U. Natatorium in Indianapolis.The annual swim meet gathers the top four best 14 and under swimmers for each contested event from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Minnesota to compete against one another as part of their state teams. Team Indiana’s combined score totaled 3,288 points giving it the top spot over 2nd place Ohio with 3,152.5 points followed by Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

Team Indiana included Club Olympia swimmers Joshua Pendleton(12), Tony Machavariani(10), and Connelly Furnish(13). Pendleton led the local contingent with six events and two relays in the 11-12 division where he placed 2nd in both the 500 and 1650 (mile) freestyle, 3rd in the 200 Freestyle, and 7th in the 100 Fly while also contributing to the 2nd place finishing 200 Free end 3rd place finishing 200 Medley Relay Teams. Machavariani, competing in the 10U division, placed 2nd in the 50 Back and 100 IM, 4th in the 50 Free, and 5th in the 100 Free while helping Team Indiana to wins in the 200 Medley and Free Relay Teams. Connelly Furnish competed in the 1650 (mile) Freestyle in the 13-14 division where she claimed 11th.
